Today's reading:
Psalms and Wisdom Literature: Psalm 120 -In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. (v. 1) Pentateuch and History: Leviticus 27 Chronicles and Prophets: Isaiah 36-37 Gospels and Epistles: Ephesians 5:1-21 -Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (v.1) Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (v.6-8) Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. (v.15-16) My Rambling Thoughts: I was always taught that whenever you see the word "therefore" in your reading look to see what the therefore is there for. The preceding verses read: Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. (Ephesians 4:31-32) Since then I am a new creation in Christ, having all of my sins forever forgiven I am to walk in a new way. The one I should pattern my life after is God Himself. That is a pretty tall order. And these days there are a lot of people who would deceive us about what that looks like. That is why it is so important for us to spend time in God's word, for if we do not we will follow all sorts of teaching that is just not Biblical. So let us look carefully at how we walk, not as unwise, but as wise, making the best use of the time-because the days are evil. Grace, Peace, and Mercy, Deb
