Scripture: I cling to Your testimonies; O Lord, do not put me to shame! I shall run the way of Your commandments, For You will enlarge my heart. (Psalm 119:31-32, NASB) Observation: -Cling to God's testimonies - God will give us what we need to run the race well. Application:
This section of Psalm 119 started with the idea of clinging or cleaving to the dust (Psalm 119:25) and replaces that with the much better thing; clinging to God and His testimonies. If we do that we will never be put to shame. What really struck me this morning was the idea of running. Many times our Christian journey is called a walk in the Bible. We learn to "walk in God's ways." Running is not something most of us can do for any length of time. I love to run for short distances, but I can walk for miles and see so much more. Running takes a lot more out of me. I read some articles about the increase in heart size needed to pump the blood necessary for stenous exercise, so marathon runners actually do have larger hearts. I won't get into the problems this can cause, but isn't that interesting in light of this verse. While running can cause a our hearts to change as a response to our needs- God starts by giving us the heart we need to run the race before we even begin. When was the last time I prayed to have my heart enlarged? Grace, Peace, and Mercy, Deb
