Friday Reflection

New on the site this week:

It feels good to be back in the writing saddle with you.  I hope you will join me as I resume my look at Philippians.  We are on the home stretch now.

-Eagerly Waiting - The Lord is coming back.  How does that knowledge affect the way we live our day to day?

Living in Harmony-You know, the problem with doing this SOAP method of study?  You cannot skip over the little details...these verses were quite convincting.

Things I liked from around the web:

The Antidote to Anemic Worship- Albert Mohler presents an interesting point about what worship should be.  You might be surprised.

-Make the Bible Your Native Tongue Tim Kimmel....this is a must read.

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus...Glory  A friend shared this video, a drama imagining what God has to say about the excuses we make.

And on the lighter side: This is for all you "hand-raisers" out there...Worship advice from Tim Hawkins

Shoshone Falls on the Snake River in Idaho. It is just off the interstate that we have driven many times but we had never stopped before. The park rangers said this was a low water year, so I cannot imagine what a sight they must be in the spring when it is not a drought year.
We had a wonderful time this summer...boy was it busy.  Moving the sons to Colorado, one in July and one in August; visiting family in Washington and Oregon; camping, hiking, sightseeing, sampling clam chowder along the coast.  This was the first vacation since we became parents that Ken and I were on our own.  We still like each other- a very good thing to find out at this point in our marriage.

I had asked for prayer in July as I intended to begin writing my first book.  That is going well.  I think I need more time in the woods to finish it though.  What can I say?  I thoroughly enjoyed settling down along mountain streams or quiet woods to just write.  I love the long life on my new computer battery...six to eight hours between charges is great but I did get asked on several occasions by passers by if I had internet. The places we go do not even have phone service so no, no internet...they would look so excited and then a little depressed when they learned I was not connected to the outside world.  Makes me wonder f the woods are going to get even lonelier in the future because people cannot disconnect from their devices.  (I did have to make several trips to get access however as my job still required my attention on a regular basis.  It is great to have a job that you can take with you on the road.  Students around the globe are continuing to find those asteroids we are looking for and it is fun to be a part of their excitement during the hunt.)

This week we are getting back into our routines.  Back in the office.  Hallways and classrooms full of eager students ready to add to their knowledge of math and science.  The nights are getting cooler, even here in Texas...it won't be long until fall, then winter...another year is zipping by.  Our chicks have flown the coop...while it may seem like a season of endings it is also a season of beginnings.   Keeping my eyes on the prize, towards the goal of my upward call...it is tempting to focus on what is past, but I remember reading somewhere that we are to forget what lies behind and press on...oh yes, I think that was something I wrote about not long ago.

Blessings!
Deb
