We have gotten into our routines that, while still feeling pretty odd, are become our norm for now. Sundays are like that with a chance to see friends face to face in a group meeting as we pray together and study God's word followed by the online service our church is doing. Then the afternoons we have turned into our time to play. Yesterday it meant spending the day in the yard doing some work on a project we have been thinking about for a couple of years. Still more work to do on that. You would think that after 36 years of marriage we would be better communicators, but when I have one thing in mind and my beloved hubby another it can get pretty interesting. Thankfully we work pretty well together even when that means taking things back to square one so that my vision can come together. It also means I did not spend any time sewing yesterday. So first let me share the block I made for yesterday's block 41. My hint for this one is a piggy bank...hmmm.... And the block is called Thrifty. This is another one that makes use of 4-patch units. And here is your hint for Block 42. This block is called Hens and Chickens. As all I could think about was sweet little baby chicks I went with some golden yellows for this one-even a very pale one in the center. So today marks 42 days. I am getting quite a collection of blocks on my design wall. I do have a couple of ideas about how I might want to put these together once I know how many blocks I have to work with. I am glad to hear that others are enjoying making them as well. Be sure and click on the link below for pdf versions of most of the blocks. I keep saying I will be adding the others, but time has not permitted that just yet.
Passing the Days pdf patterns I wish you a day of peace wherever you are and Happy Quilting! I love to take a close look at things. So may tiny, hidden treasures are really there in plain sight if we just look. I am most happy surrounded by trees in forest; big old Ponderosa and Douglas Fir to name just a few. It took me a long time to find the beautiful hidden treasures that abound in other landscapes. Take the prairies for instance. They can look like just a vast empty grassland when driving by, but when you stop to look they come alive with all sorts of things. I can spend hours lost in a meadow teeming with flowers and butterflies. Today's block is called Prairie Queen. I knew I wanted to represent grasses with a green, but I also had in mind to capture the colors of wildflowers as well. So instead of just one color for my four-square blocks I used two complimentary purples. Click on the link below to get a pdf copy of the pattern:
Passing the Days pdf patterns I hope you have a most blessed day and find some hidden treasures too. Happy Quilting!! There is just something special about butterflies. Monarchs in particular are fascinating in that they migrate just like birds. There have already been a handful of sightings this year in Oregon. When I saw the name of today's block it made me think of butterflies. My husband has always referred to them as flutterbies-a name that has stuck in our family. So while I have no idea what the quilter had in mind who named this block I am thinking of butterflies. So let me introduce to you Block 39: Flutter Wheel I took my cues from the Monarchs and chose an orange and black color scheme. I had this black polkadot which added a bit of whimsy-a flight of fancy. This block is all about the Half-square Triangles. They are certainly a mainstay in quilt blocks it seems. When making the 4-patch pinwheels they lay pretty flat if you fan the seams open. Now I am off to help out my new office mate who gets restless working from home.
