There is just something special about butterflies. Monarchs in particular are fascinating in that they migrate just like birds. There have already been a handful of sightings this year in Oregon. When I saw the name of today's block it made me think of butterflies. My husband has always referred to them as flutterbies-a name that has stuck in our family. So while I have no idea what the quilter had in mind who named this block I am thinking of butterflies. So let me introduce to you Block 39: Flutter Wheel I took my cues from the Monarchs and chose an orange and black color scheme. I had this black polkadot which added a bit of whimsy-a flight of fancy. This block is all about the Half-square Triangles. They are certainly a mainstay in quilt blocks it seems. When making the 4-patch pinwheels they lay pretty flat if you fan the seams open. Now I am off to help out my new office mate who gets restless working from home.
