After everthing settled down from the Christmas celebrations I walked into my quilt studio and acknowledged it was time for some cleaning and organizing. I had watched an episode of The Quilt Show (an online show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims) which had a closing segment discussing the dangers in our studios to our beloved pets. With a new cat in the house I realized it was time to knuckle down and "clean up my act." I even included a lovely basket complete with flannel quilt for Bailey the cat, but he seems to like the rocking chair better. Every January I set a goal to complete some of the UFO's I have lying around. My UFO's (Unfunished Objects) increased this year rather than decreased so I am motivated to see if I can end 2014 with fewer UFO's than I started with. The block currently on my design wall is from a Block of the Month I started a few years ago but did not even finish month one when some health issues took over my life. I originally choose to participate in the Ruffled Roses BOM by Sue Garmin as it would introduce me to several new techniques I had been wanting to try with the support of a wonderful group of online quilters. I fiddled with it a bit last year, trying my hand at needle turn applique. This year I decided to make a concerted effort to finish it-so I dropped the idea of improving my needle turn skills for now, which are still pretty rough and gave the starch method of preparation a try. This weekend I completed the whole layout and glue basted the pieces in place on my wonky vine. It is now ready to travel with me for an easy project to work on during the lulls in my job. Something I can pick up and put down with ease. I probably should have tacked an easier piece to learn applique on-something with larger pieces and no inticate vine to being the lesson with but.... How is your quilt space looking these days? Any UFO's on your list to complete? If you are in need of an accountability partner in the effort please feel free to share with me. I hope to be an encouragement as I tackle my own. (I should have counted but I think 15 might be an honest assessment of the number of UFO's waiting for action- I will count them and post the number later this week.)
