Quilt Qwazy Queens-It's My Turn

3/22/2020

Picture
When I heard about this year's blog hop theme, Making Us Laugh, well how could I not join in?  So thank you to Joan of Moosestash Quilting for organizing this fun hop.  None of us knew when we agreed to be Quilt Qwazy Queens where our lives would be today.  I cannot help but think that it is the perfect theme for the days we are in.

I had a hard time coming up with something to make us laugh though.  It was actually over lunch with a friend that part of the idea for my quilt was born.  I am a birder so a silly bird was the first to join my party.  There were so many other projects vying for my attention though; it was like they were all sitting there mocking me.  And that's when the idea started to come together.  My little birdy told me to embrace the UFO's as my friends.  So, UFO's Welcome Here was born.
Picture
UFO's-those unfinished objects that seem to be a part of every quilter's life.  Maybe it is just time we welcome them as guests to our quilting party.  So I fling my arms open wide and say, "Come on in!"
Picture
Now just because I am embracing my UFO's does not mean I am not working to complete the ones I have.  And neither is my little birdy.  Behind her is her latest proud accomplishment.  And what a fitting quilt she has made.  Filled with Friendship Star blocks to remind her of the many wonderful friends she has in the quilting community who accept her, UFO's and all.  Not to mention the new friendships formed with her UFO's.  They can come out of hiding now and be a part of the show too.  You might even find one or two soon hanging on my walls.  Why not be inspired by those that I still love?
Picture
I did some fussy cutting on my little bird from a bright and cheery charm pack.  I thought the flowers made great tail feathers and worked for the wing too.
Picture
After doing all of the quilting I used my machine to add her legs and frills also So this little birdy can stand tall.  I have put together a pattern to share with you all, which is available for free for a limited time in my shop.  You can get your copy by clicking on the button below.

Hi Debra! What a cute mini quilt and just the perfect theme for many quilters. I have more UFOs than I care to think about right now, but they certainly are welcome in our home. Thanks for the smile today - that birdie is c.u.t.e. ~smile~ Roseanne

The only thing that would have made this little quilt funnier would have been to see a Martian waving her quilted flag from her spaceship! This is a great project! It certainly brightened my day! Love the Friendship Hearts in the background. Thank you so much for the inspiration and giggles.

Debra

What an absolutely adorable little bird. I love how you used your sewing machine to add the legs, incorporated the UFO... with the hat and the pieced block behind it... A truly cute project Debra.

lol You did a great job with your birdie and also by adding the UFO. I always think, they must not be a true quilter unless they have at least one UFO! Thank you for the pattern. I'm going now to download it.
