Walking around the neighborhood right now we see a profusion of color. The Oriental Poppies always put on a good show. You may think that the next block has to do with flowers and while I went with a floral theme Block 72 is called Triplet One of the things we have been able to do is get in the woods. On Day 74 we took advantage of a beautiful day to get out and enjoy some new views of Mt Shasta. With such inspiration I came across a perfect block...Pine Tree. I had a woodgrain fabric in my stash that I had to think about how each piece would work directionally. I was thrilled that I did not have to redo anything. Don't you just love it when everything falls together so perfectly. It has been awhile since we have made split-quarter triangles. I want to remind you how to line up your ruler as you trim these to size. The 3/4" mark on the diagonal line is the center of the unit. This is what you want to see after rotating it to trim the other two sides. Lining up the diagonal line of the ruler is the main key-and again the 3/4" mark goes in the middle where all of the seams come together. An option you might want to consider when making the four-patch units is to fan the seams when you press them. I had to fiddle with one seam when it came time to join the units together but that was easily solved by simply repressing it the direction I needed it to go. The benefit of fanning those seams is how flat the finished unit lays when pressed. The one on the left has been fanned whereas the one on the right is pressed to one direction. Just a matter or preference here. I hope you enjoy making these two blocks.
