I loved May Day growing up. We made baskets filled with flowers for our neighbors and then snuck onto their porches to leave the baskets for them without being seen. At least we think we managed to escape unseen each time. It was such fun! I found lots of patterns for basket blocks but none that would work with a 6 x 6 grid so I ended up designing my own and naming it May Day Basket. So here it is: Block 46. It looks complicated but is made entirely with squares and half-square triangles. It is a bit of a puzzle to put together but I have simplified that by working with units that end up giving us a nine-patch design to put together. Personally I cut out the pieces as I needed them after cutting all of the background fabrics out. I just worked one unit at a time. Here I decided to attach the units to the row as I went, so the top row is coming together with the first two units. Some units make use of the same pieces and even then I only worked on one at a time. Here unit 3 is done and I will work with the leftovers next. I went ahead and labeled them with sticky notes and placed them in the correct locations for the block. As you can see here-just like putting a 9-patch block together. I will tell you to be sure and follow my pressing directions as doing so will allow all of these seams to lock together when sewing-even those diagonal ones. I never got yesterday'spost done. It is another version of a Jacob's Ladder. We did that one back on day 30. By adding a darker color into the mix it changes the look of the block. So we have Jacob's Ladder 2. The pdf files for both of these blocks can by found by clicking on the link below. Passing the Days pdf patterns Today was also the day I introduced Block 2 in my current BOM
So be sure and check that out by following the link as well. Star Light, Star Bright I do hope you enjoy your May Day Basket. Happy Quilting! Comments are closed.
