Today's block is Attic Window. For some reason the name of this block put me in mind of my grandnother. Maybe because I remember peering out of the attic window as a little girl down onto my grandmother's flower garden. With those thoughts circling in my head I decided today's block would be in remembrance of those long ago childhood days. To be honest this block does not make me think of an attic window; it makes my wonder how it got that name. Perhaps the very center is representative of the window in a dark attic? Here is what you will need for this block: Dark Fabric: (cut 2) 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" squares (cut 2) 3" x 3" squares Medium Fabric #1: (cut 2) 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" squares (cut 1) 3" x 3" square Medium Fabric #2: (cut 1) 3" x 3" square Light Fabric: (cut 1) 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" We will be working with squares and Half-square Triangles again, so start by drawing a diagonal line on the back of both of the medium fabric 3" x 3" squares. Place them right sides together on top of the dark fabric 3" squares and sew 1/4" from each side of the drawn line. Cut apart on the line and press towards the dark fabric. (I forgot to take a photo of the pressed HST's!) Next, lay out the HST's with the 2 1/2" squares as shown. Join together into rows, pressing as indicated by arrows. Join the rows together to complete the block, matching and seams and pressing as indicated. The block should measure 6 1/2" x 6 1/2". This block was a bit of a departure from my usual color choices. I started with the green floral and then knew I wanted to add some blue. We are having such a blue sky kind of day that I needed to somehow show that in my block. I had a hard time settling on my dark fabric. I thought about going with a brown, but that was just too dark for me. I pulled out my color wheel and had a look. It turns out that orange-yellow is the split-complimentary for my blue and green combination and upon closer examination of my green floral print it was right there all along. For the rest of the blocks I am making to mark the passing of the days during our time of social distancing click on the link here: Passing the Days
