I have put off posting my latest blocks as I pass the days during our "Stay Home, Save Lives" orders. I began to wonder if you would get tired of having daily posts for who knows how long and so talked myself out of doing them, but you know, I really consider this my online home; where I invite you all in to share my life, so I will be picking up posting as I go for now. It gives me something positive to do each day. So today is a little catch-up. I am still just working with squares and Half-square Triangles (HST's) on these blocks. If you are new to making HST's check out my previous posts in this series for photo tutorials on my method for putting these blocks together which can be found here: Passing the Days Blocks Day 6: 9-patch Star For this block I chose to use an analogous color scheme. Analagous basically means similar, so for this color combination I started with my Blue and then went next to it on the color wheel and picked out a Cerulean Blue to go with it. Colors that are next to your main color will always look good together. With the white on white for my third choice that gives me a high value contrast which lets the pattern really shine through. Cutting Directions for 9-Patch Star: Dark Fabric: (cut 2) 3" x 3" Medium Fabric: (cut 2) 3" x 3" Light Fabric: (cut 4) 3" x 3" (cut 1) 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" Make the HST's and trim them to 2 1/2" x 2 1/2". Lay out as shown to make the block. Day 7: Snowball 1 It was snowing on Day 7 so a snowball block seemed appropriate. Blue and white just seemed to be the way to go and I had a blue fabric with snowy winter tress and a white on white featuring snowflakes. This is a very simple block that I have used as a cornerstone at times in the sashings of my quilts. Cutting Directions for Snowball 1: Dark Fabric: (cut 2) 3" x 3" Light Fabric: (cut 2) 3" x 3" (cut 5) 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" As with all of the blocks so far the HST's are trimmed to 2 1/2" x 2 1/2". I press away form the HST's whenever possible. The top and bottom rows were pressed towards the middle squares and the middle row was pressed towards the left and right squares so that the seams would nest when joining the rows together. he block looks a little funny with the outside seam allowance still visible. It was still snowing on Day 8 so I made a variation on the Snowball block. Day 8: Snowball Variation For this one I stuck with my blue and white combination; though I chose a different blue. I decided to use the same fabric for my center square rather than choosing a third fabric. Cutting Directions for 9-Patch Star: Dark Fabric: (cut 2) 3" x 3" Medium Fabric: (cut 1) 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" Light Fabric: (cut 2) 3" x 3" (cut 4) 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" I pressed just like the Snowball 1 block. As more and more of us are getting the stay at home orders I hope you are able to find some joy in your days. For me, playing with the colors in my stash as I make these blocks does indeed bring me joy.

Thank you for continuing the block. simple and easy to do and the colors are easier to pick from my Mothers stash, I get overwhelmed when i have to alot of colors. I do enjoy making blocks I can finish in a few minutes.
