I used to do a lot of painting; oil and watercolor mainly. Different brushes were used for different techniques to create the affect I desired. The same is true with the many sewing machine feet we have available now. Today I am thinking about which is my favorite presser foot. It is a tough choice. The one I use the most often is my Quarter Inch Foot. But I could get by without it if I had to, though I am very glad I have it. Giving this more thought I decided I would have to go with the Walking Foot. This foot gets used to do a lot of the machine quilting I do on my domestic machine. The adjustable guides that come with it make it easy to sew grid line patterns. I also use it to put on my bindings which I attach to the front of my quilts with my machine before hand stitching them down to the back side of the quilt. These are both jobs that are made so much easier by the even feeding of the top and bottom layers of the quilt that a Walking Foot is known for. The 1/8" and 1/4" markings on it also take the guess work out of sewing seams and knowing where to stop to rotate my quilt when I am turning corners. So you win Walking Foot. You strange and clunky looking thing. You sometimes give me fits trying to attach you correctly to my machine but in the end you have proven yourself a most useful friend. How about you? What would you choose as your favorite presser foot? Let me know in the comments.

I do like my walking foot, though I think it's a pain to put on. When it's on, I try to leave it on for a while! Probably the one I use the most is a modified open toe foot. It makes any seaming or appliqué easier to see.

Totally agree, Susan, I try to have several things that need the Walking foot, though I am getting better at putting it on with less struggle, lol. I can't believe I forgot about the open toe foot-when I am doing machine applique it is my best friend. Comments are closed.
