Passing the Days: Day 32

I have a small teacup collection, most came from either my mother or from a very dear friend who passed them on to me many years ago.  There is just something special about siping tea with friends out of beautiful tea cups.  When this seclusion is over I think it will be time for a trip with the girlfriends to the tea house for high tea.

Today, in honor of my friends my block is Cups and Saucers.

My favorite tea cups are blue and white and these fabrics put me in mind of them.The colors in the photo below are much close to the actual fabrics I used than what the block looks like.  Though I do not have as much contrast once I cut them out and sewed to size.  I may have to play with another rendition of this block...

I designed this one to be made with Half-square Triangles and Flying Geese which makes it pretty quick to put together.  There is just one hitch to the Flying Geese and that is I used three fabrics instead of two in each one.  So I start out just like usual, but then the last square addded is a different fabric from the rest.

So I end up with two Flying Geese that have the small triangles reversed: with the dark fabric on the left in one and the dark fabric on the right in the other. This will work perfectly for this block.

The only other thing to be aware of is those seams...if my quarter inch seam is correct my needle will land right at the intersection of those seams and I end up with  perfectly pointy point.  Sew slowly over the bulky seams or they tend to get a wobble to them when you go over that spot.

Ahhh-looking good.  Does anyone else get a bit of a thrill when the points come out like this?
