I love quilts, all quilts, old and new. I have been hand quilting this spider web quilt for several months now. It belongs to a friend of mine: an unfinished top passed down through the generations. It was pieced by hand and is in pretty delicate shape in places. It has been a much slower process than I had hoped, but today I made the turn that showed the end is near-the final row and half! It was time to give my fingers a little break so I thought I would also share some old friends that reside in my studio now. I have three quilts in my collection from family members. This is a crazy quilt that my paternal grandmother made. There were two of these and they spent a lot of time on my brothers' beds. My grandmother also made this Dresden Plate quilt, which is very worn from being my cover of choice throughout my childhood. Once upon a time I learned how to repair old quilts, I need to spend some time and bring this old favorite back to life. (Which means I need to start keeping an eye out at antique shops and the like for suitable fabric.) This Sunbonnet Sue was from my husband's family. I do not know it's history or maker, but somewhere in that family was a talented appliquer. Back to quilting!
Deb I wish I knew that name of the quilter how made this lovely Lone Star quilt. The article can be accessed at Quilter's Newsletter. All I can tell you is it is a quilt by Lori Baker's mom and was shown in Wyoming last year. Ever since I discoverd quilting I have wanted to tackle this pattern. I have played with it on a smaller scale, making a little pillow for a gift one year...Someday I hope to make one worthy of someone's bed. Since stars are on my mind, here are a couple of freebies for you this week. As always let me know if the links do not work for you.
